Gas Oven Igniter Lights But No Flame
One possibility when your oven won t heat up is a failure of the oven safety valve otherwise known as the gas valve.
Gas oven igniter lights but no flame. The igniter is. The ignitor has to draw 3 6 amps for the gas valve to open. All that is happening now is the igniter glows and there is either no gas is getting through the orifice because it is stopped up or the valve is not allowing the gas to the orifice in the first place. The stove part works fine just the oven won t release gas.
Auto clean works answered by a verified appliance technician. My oven lights then seems like it is starving for gas sputters comes back on then the flames goes real low. However the oven feature is not working. To test the ignitor you have to read the amp draw of the ignitor.
If the igniter does not glow at all use a multimeter to test the igniter for continuity. On a gas stove electric igniters spark the surface burners to produce an adjustable flame. When you light the burner the igniter produces a characteristic clicking or ticking sound which stops when the flame appears. If the igniter is weak replace it.
Connect an amp meter to the ignitor and turn the oven on. Ignitor glows orange but no flame gas comes out. I ordered a new glow igniter installed it same thing still happening. The igniter gets so bright and hot the oven actually be hot inside too but the gas never releases.
Using a small needle clean the pilot hole where the gas passes through. There is a gas smell particularly inside the drum. While the location varies between models the hot surface igniter is usually found near the oven burners you may need to remove the bottom panel in order to access it. I just replaced the coils to no avail.
The problem can be caused by the oven safety valve or the ignitor. The oven did not get used for at least 4 years before we moved in so not sure if that can result in any affects. This part which doesn t often break ensures that gas only comes to the oven when the igniter is hot enough to light up the gas. Igniter glows but no flame is generated when the coils click.
The gas valve is equipped with a safety mechanism that shuts off the gas if the igniter isn t working properly. Remove any dirt debris or gunk that may be blocking the gas flow. If however the igniter doesn t glow hot enough the oven will not light and you ll likely smell a little gas. The igniter glows hot which then lights the gas coming from the orifice which heats the flame rod which in turn lights the burner.
If the igniter glows for more than 90 seconds without igniting the gas flame this indicates that the igniter is too weak to open the valve. To determine if the igniter is defective observe the igniter when the oven is on.
